Maxwell Jones was born in January 4th, 1907, in South Africa. He was the youngest of 03 brothers. At the age of 05 his father passed away, due to problems associated with alcoholism. His mother chose not to go back to the US, where she was from, and decided to move with the family to Edinburgh, Scotland.
After finishing high school, Jones went to the medical school, at Edimburgh University, where he receives the gold medal, in 1930, for his work on the effects of carbohydrates on neurotransmitters. About the course, Jones affirms: "all 08 years spent in medical school and in hospital internship were, frankly, a nightmare. I hated dealing with physical misery with such professional indifference."
